overall performance of tia portal when runs on an apple chip?

_{Does it run like on a regular windows machine? Is it much faster or slower?}

Split from Tia Portal on new Apple M1 chip.

For the company I work with we use macs because their hardware is superior and we tend to keep them longer (they are actually cheaper in the long run). We always used VMs anyway so no big deal.

99% of programming is done in the office with large screens etc, so underlying PC is irrelevant.

Apple Silicon is even better being faster and fanless, however compatibility issues do exist. Hope Siemens might some day go for arm.

Regarding dongles you are right, they are an inconvenience. Sometimes you cannot avoid them (e.g. PC adapter), sometimes we try to use wifi when on the site. This offers flexibility and safety (people tripping over cables).

This is just out of interest, why you are working with MACs on industrial automation?

Are you self employed and do some other programming on the side? Or possibly PLC programming is side job for you.

Our company tried to push laptops without RJ-45 connection, that not acceptable. Yes, one can use USB, but that is not reliable.
