Identify MAC address of PLCSIM Advanced

Aden Regular Member Joined: 2/8/2010 Last visit: 4/22/2025 Posts: 53 Rating: (1)	Hello to all, I have created a new instance in PLCSIM Advanced (v4.0) and after creating a simple test project, I want to download it to this particular instance. Since it is the first download, when searching for the device, only option is to use ISO protocol to download the project. In this case MAC address is shown just like in the attached picture. I have three questions: 1. Why is that, when I created PLCSIM Advanced instance first with IP address? 2. Is there any way to check this MAC address in PLCSIM Advanced ? 3. Is this MAC address only bound to the specific PLCSIm Adv instance, i.e. will newly create instance have different MAC address? Attachment PLCSIMADV question.png (260 Downloads)

When creating the PLCSIM Advanced instance, the configured IP address is not included in the PLC configuration. Therefore, the PLC found is still without an IP address. Aden 2. Is there any way to check this MAC address in PLCSIM Advanced ? As far as I know, no, you can't see the MAC address in the PLCSIM Advanced GUI. Aden 3. Is this MAC address only bound to the specific PLCSIm Adv instance, i.e. will newly create instance have different MAC address? When you access the virtual SIMATIC memory card of your instance, you will find the 'sim_hwdb.ini' file. In this file you can set the MAC address. Kind regards Stefan

Aden Regular Member Joined: 2/8/2010 Last visit: 4/22/2025 Posts: 53 Rating: (1)	Thank you for you reply Stefan, when I open sim_hwdb (after load is finished and everything is running), I can see only data like "FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF" and no actual MAC address value that I saw before, during the first download.

However, if the configuration is changed to a valid MAC address, it will be used. Kind regards Stefan
