KTP1200 Basic evaluate connection to PLC

Greetings,

I'm currently working on a project with a KTP1200 Basic. 

It's my first time working with a Basic and the inability to use scripts is killing me.

Can someone tell a way to evaluate the connection between the HMI and PLC that doesn’t require VBS scripts?

I want to show communication failure on screen but I can’t figure out how to check for it.

Hello,

Go to connections.

Then go to tab 'Area pointers'  and you can use 'Coordination'

See online help. There is a bit, called lifebit.

Thanks for the reply. From what I read about the life bit it doesn't really suit my purpose. It is used so that the PLC knows when it loses connection with the HMI.

I want the HMI to know it lost the connection, not the PLC, so I can display a message on-screen informing the user.

Typically I’d use a life bit on the PLC and make a VBS script on the HMI to display a lost connection if the life bit maintained its value for X amount of time.

I was hoping there was some way of doing that in a Basic HMI.

Having lost the connection I wouldn’t receive information about whether the PLC is in RUN or STOP.

When connection is aborted, you will get a System Event 140001

Go to HMI alarms and tab 'System Events'

Go to System Event 140001 -> properties -> events

When this system event comes, you can call a function. (Like SETBIT)

 Did you even read the link a gave you? The link describes exactly what you need to do in the display, to get the knowledge is the communication link if active or not. Works with Basic, Comfort and Mobile panels.

Thanks for the suggestion but this panel doesn’t allow me to associate a function to the appearance of the system event (at least for that specific event, didn’t check all of them), compared it with another project that has a comfort panel and the other one does have that option for that event. Thanks anyway. I'll just go with the PLCs life bit animating something and flog the salesperson.
