Masking two INT to one Real

Function of variables 

Inputs: High_Int, Low_Int of type int

Output:= Out_Real of type real

#Out_Real := DWORD_TO_REAL(SHL(IN := INT_TO_DINT(#High_Int), N := 16) OR

call the function in your ladder logic program. 

If you want to concatenate, below code should do the trick 

Result is of data type REAL.

It plugs in the high int value in and move it left to occupy the bits from Bit 16 - 31

and then loads the low int which occupies bit 0 - 15

by OR the double word it combines them into one REAL

L     #"High Int"

SLD   16

L     #"Low Int"

Hi, I need a program example, how I can make a ladder program, that masking two INT to one Real.

The two Interger comes from Schneider energy meter, that supply 2 registor, for one UNIT.

Any one has a little application, that make than function. (Ladder Program)

I thought i shall propose a solution in a different language, but you are correct in essence the code does exactly what the SCL code does, same idea implemented in different languages. 

its an interesting point you raised about the speed of STL compared to LD, FBD and SCL, I haven’t done any test myself, wonder if you have any data to back up that claim, I would have assumed they are more or less similar.

Your description exactly matches the SCL in the post prior to yours.  SCL reads so much better and requires less explanation.  Looks and feels like math rather than low level assembly language.

In TIA Portal on s7-1200/1500, there is absolutely no advantage to using STL as it runs no faster than compiled LAD/FBD, and may even run slower than compiled SCL (in some cases).

Something to think about when suggesting a low level language to solve a task easily done using other PLC languages.

I applaud you posting an alternative for those hardcode STL lovers out there hanging on to this language like their jobs depended on it.

I was solwing same issue with reading solar inverter registers. I found much easier explanation to solve this issue.

First to understand that modbus registers is WORD not INT (Both are the same size) but you can`t do mathematic with WORD

Easiest way is simple mathematic available in LAD and FBD:

Highest WORD convert to DINT and multiple by 65536

Lowest WORD convert to DINT

Final answer is DINT + DINT

After you get answer you can convert DINT to REAL
