Getting error "could not determine type of module tools" while uploading project to PC

Hi guys,

I am trying to upload project from an S7-1200 PLC which is controlling an ABB drive via profinet. I have to make some changes in the program therefore i need to first upload it in my PG/PC. I was able to find the PLC and drive in the accessible devices. I was also able to go online with the CPU but when i tried to upload station to PG to get the project i got the following errors.

1. Could not determine type of module tools (gsdml-v2.31-abb-fena-20150120.xml) offline. ?

and also following warnings:

1. "gsdml-v2.31-abb-fena-20150120.xml"

2. The PLC contains additional data of the following products

3. Working with the PLC loaded from the device may only be possible with restrictions because the PLC was previously loaded with the following installed products from a different project environment.

gsdml-v2.31-abb-fena-20150120.xml 1.0

From the errors and warnings I suppose its due to my TIA portal not having the abb GSDML file installed in it? If so, I can't find the exact same gsd file on the internet. Not even on ABB site.

Contact ABB support and request the GSDML file from them.

 Will the problem be resolved after installing the gsdml file in my TIA?

Hello aamiranwan;

Most probably this error message will dosapear.

Gsd (for Profibus-DP) and gsdml (for Profinet) files are not transfered to the CPU when you download your program, only the drive communication setup is, as oart if the hardware configuration.  By consequence, yiu cannot upload the original files from the CPU, and TIA Portal cannot identify the equipment you are trying to control without you installing them once in your uploaded project again.

Ok. So after getting the gsdml file and installing it in my TIA do i have to do any other steps or just go on and upload the program from plc to pc like i was simply doing before and it will automatically do everything on it's own? Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions but this is the first time I'm dealing with gsdml files.

 Hi aamirawan91,

Whether do you have initial commissioning backup with hardware configuration.
If yes then you just need to compare PLC Hardware and Blocks, and Take online snapshot of database.

So that it can avoid program upload issue.
