ST60

Hi!, I 've a S7-200 ST60 with an stand alone application, the project is to add some IO to the process so we need to add a remote modules (50ft aprox.) . So, my question is if its possible to connect this particular PLC to a remote IO, the PLC Manual is not clear for me.

The "ST60" not a number that I am familiar with: the S7-200 CPU's had numbers like S7-214, S7-226, etc.  If you can find a 6ES7-2... part number from the PLC, I can give more a more detailed answer.\

However, the general answer for the S7-200 PLC's is that they did NOT support remote I/O.  All but the lowest-end CPU's supported I/O expansion modules, but they were directly connected to the local rack/backplane of the CPU.  There was a ribbon cable you could use to put I/O modules on a different rail in the cabinet, but it was 0.8m long, so it was to split the PLC into two rails in the local cabinet, not for remote I/O.

There was a Profibus-DP module that allowed the S7-200 to act as a Profibus-DP intelligent I/O drop. It did NOT allow the S7-200 to be a Profibus I/O controller.  There was also an Ethernet module, but this was before ProfiNet was a thing, so the Ethernet module was for HMI and peer-to-peer communication, not I/O.

The S7-200 SMART product range offers much more than what we had on the original S7-200 range. The SMART is kind-of unknown to people outside Asia.

I would expect that you would be able to handle Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP to the networked I/O. A slower process would not mind its use.

If you were already contemplating using ET200 type remote I/O, you may as well consider an ET200 that has an inbuilt processor.
