Hello, I am a university student working on a project for a company the project is about asset management.
I have a sample project, but I'm a bit stuck. My question is whether anyone has additional information about this, because I understand the principle, but the operation of the example project is not entirely clear to me.

Did you open the Siemens project and attempt to execute it against known PN assets?

Doing that fills in the Asset DB entries automatically. 

As far as non PN devices, I recommend completely ignoring those at least until the PN portion is 100% functional.

What you will learn going from 0 to 100% functional for your current PN assets may result in using something like a datalog exported to a PC that gets imported into excel and appended to an existing spreadsheet where all the non PN assets were previously entered manually.

It makes no sense (to me at least) to list manual assets in a PLC DB.  However, I have no need nor use for the asset mgmt tool you are looking to use.  I also do not understand the full scope of your mandate, nor the allowances available to you.

Like, as examples, where must the final asset data reside?  PLC is not best choice because it is way too easy to download an update to the PLC that wipes out all current data.  That's my opinion on it at least.

If the assets are being pushed to an HMI, into something like a RECIPE system, that's probably going to be rather restrictive and high-maintenance if rolled out across multiple PLC-based systems.

That's why I thought about sending to dynamically generated datalog, imported into excel from PLC web page (which can be automated using CURL for example), and make "pretty" and organized for human use.

I’m trying to get the Siemens project working, but according to the manual, when using a non-Profinet sensor, I need to manually enter its data into the database. Then The Asset Management function (FB1) will then retrieve this data. What I don’t understand is where to input the information for non-Profinet sensors—directly in FB1 or in the database? (They use char.) and how do you do it.
