Step 7 Install from external drive possible?

picengineer123 Posts: 95 Rating: (0)	Hello Is it possible to install Step 7 (Prof 2006) from a hard drive or network drive? I copied the installation discs to a protable drive and proceeded to install from that drive. It proceeds fine untill the installer asks for CD2. It fails, but the software still works, I assume that is because the manuals are on CD2. This question would be valid for all software that requires multple CDs. I read the readme, but no mention of such an install and the forums seem silent on the concept. thanks john

picengineer123 Posts: 95 Rating: (0)	I have tried with WinCC flexible 2007 Step 7 Proff 2006 Drives ES basic all request CD 2 at some point and there is no way of browsing to the drive location. You mention moving contents of the CDs to "one" folder. I did that, the contents of the primary folder are simply "CD1" and "CD2"...and other CDs if they exist. I try, with Drives ES basic, to start the setup from CD2, but it gives an error saying to go higher in the directory. Lets stick with WinCC flex, which did install except for the runtime and simulation. thanks John

picengineer123 Posts: 95 Rating: (0)	IBN I checked into the applications. They seem interesting, but wouldn't you need the application running on any computer you were atempting to the images from? I sometimes use my portable drive to reinstall software for my customers when they are having issues, so access to the installation software is unpredictable. it is very interesting though

Onto the destination PC, the software must run. May be that it is possible without aninstallation, but I am not sure about that. If that is not possible / allowed, it will be no solution for you.

No problem, no requests of CD2.Open folder CD_1 of Step7 DVD, copy its contents to required folder. Then open folder CD_2, copy its contents to the same folder, replace files when you will be asked. You don't need files that are in the root of DVD. Run installer from your new folder.
