The Y link forms an independent underlying bus system that is decoupled from the higherlevel DP master system in terms of communication. dchartier A Siemens panel (usually) is set-up as a Profibus Class 2 Master, not as a slave. A slave requires exchange data configuration, so that the same values are exchanged between master and slave at every Profibus cycle. A master class 2 only needs a connection (the Profibus address) and a token (from Profibus); when it has the token, it can read and write all the registers it needs from the CPu, without prior configuration. I am trying to point out that, Y link supports Profibus slaves and not class 2 masters. Hence you cannot connect an MP377 (a class 2 master on Profibus) using a Y link to a 400H system.

adilmahsan Posts: 71 Rating: (2)	Thanks for the reply If the simatic panel is a class 2 master, and requires the token to communicate with the other master (plc), then would it's connection on the profibus network be the same as that for slaves (A to A and B to B) or would it require the use of Y-link with both, the PLC and the hmi acting as masters?
