PCS7 Performance

aussie Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hello all, We are having difficulty with PCS7 OS performance. We use PCS7 V6.1 SP1. In addition to PCS7 we are also using the Power Solutions Library. There are two redundant OS Servers and three OS clients. Two of those clients are configured with four monitors each. Now if we load historical trend displays on all four screens of a client after a while, the CPU usage becomes nearly 100% and the client does not respond to mouse or keyboard actions quickly. Sometimes it could take about 4-5 minutes to open a faceplate. But the trends get updated regularly without any apparent delay. If we stop the trend on one of the screen, then the client respond to keyboard and mouse events. I am sure, it is linked to the PC performance but has anyone had such an experience? What could be the solution? Will this problem be solved if we add aditional clients and use two screens instead of four? We got a similar problem with PCS7 faceplates. The faceplate loads quite slowly and updates slowly, an example is, animation of valves where the position shown could be completely wrong compared to the actual position and difficult to control by the operator. Again it could be linked to the same problem as the client has four screens. Appreciate if you can share your experience with such performance issues. Thanks, John

aussie Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hi Nemo, The client config is : SIMATIC PCS 7 OS CLIENT IL 40S IE P4 2.4GHZ, 1 X GB RAM, DYNAMIC VIDEO MEMORY, HD 60GB 1 X FAST ETHERNET RJ45 ONBOARD WIN 2000 PROFESSIONAL MUI (G,E,F,S,I) There is more than 40GB diskspace free. There are four screens per client and each screen displays a trend with 5-6 pens for 15 minutes length. When we display 4 screens with trends, the CPU usage reaches close to 100% and it does not respond to mouse and keyboard events. Well, everything works fine if we stop the trend in one of the screen which would effectively free up more CPU cycles. We may be able to add an additional client if it is due to exhausting a single client. The client and the server are connected to the same ESM and hence there is nothing much we can do to improve the network performance. The WinCC server performance is not bad, CPU usage is nearly 50%. I am unable to attach the WinCC diagnostic files at the moment. I will attach it later. Meanwhile, have you come across such performance issues when a client displays 4 screens? Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (172)	Hi in my experience the CPU-load of a WinCC Server should be about 20-25% during normal operation. Perhaps you reduce the loaded archive data by decreasing the segement size of your archives. (because not just the data of your 15 minutes is loaded - the entire data will be loaded into your trend, even if it´s not displayed) nemo

aussie Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hi Nemo, Further to my previous post, the WinCC server has some additional process running such as MIS-Light data exports, Matricon OPC links. The CPU usage may be more due to that. Regards, John
