X204IRT Subnet Mask Issue

CWolfe Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Is there any reason why I cannot set the subnet mask on a X204IRT switch to 255.255.252.0? I am using a 172.16.x.y IP addressing scheme and I want to use the subnet mask 255.255.252.0 to setup subnets. Primarily I will use 172.16.0.y for my network components, i.e. switches and security modules, 172.16.1.y and 172.16.2.y for my control components, PN PLC's and CP's, and 172.16.3.y for a testing environment. I have tried using Primary Setup Tool v3.0, Step 7 v5.3 HF3 and web management.PST reports an Error Box titled Error 1:238, "Writing the parameters failed". In Step 7's HW Config PLC menu item, I use the Edit Ethernet Node selction, browse for the switch and when I try to assign the subnet mask, I get the error box Edit Ethernet Node (4502:529), "The function could not be executed". FInally, under web management's Agent menu, I enter the subnet mask and receive the message in red at the bottom of the screen "Value for subnet mask is not valid, do not enter 0.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.255!". All the other devices, PLC's, X208 switches, etc. accept the subnet mask. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

The reported version numbers from the web management screen are as follows: Boot Software: V1.11 04.05.2005 Firmware: V 1.3.0 Hardware Revision: 1 I am using this switch as the Redundancy Manager for a ring of X208 switches. I am not using the IRT functionality at this time.

I was contacted regarding the details of the problem within a few hours and the technician confirmed that he could reproduce the same problem with the subnet mask. He said he would submit a report back to the Scalance group and that I should check the Support website for updates to the X204IRT product line.After this update is posted, I will include the details in another message in this forum. Thank you for your assistance.

As mentioned in the FAQthis firmware does not support Ring topology. So in most applications the v1 firmware will be used because the only Profinet IRT devices which are available are the SINAMICS which have a 4-port integrated switch onboard.. Best regards, INS
