Andrej Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Greetings! I would like to know the following: Iwould like to use my unused buttons on HMI for specific functions like switching to warmup program and stuff... I am able toexecute the warmup programusingR parameters and i would like to know if there is any variable that i can use for assigning the "free" keys/buttons on my HMI on SINUMERIK 840d to the specific functions? Some time agoI was browsing through the "List of sistem variables.pdf " andI thinkI saw a sistem variable that contains the valueof an analog input or something like that. ButI cant find it now that i need it!!! Any suggestions? LP Andrej

shanny Posts: 44 Rating: (0)	Hi, For some reason Siemens do not allow us to see the states of the normal Inputs and Outputs with the part program. Only inputs and outputs connected onto the drive bus that go directly to the NCK can be seen in the part program as standard. This includes analog I/O. The system variable $A_IN[inputNumber] is used to read the digitalinputs. All other I/O including the user definable keys goes via the plc. If you have access to plc programming you can map these to the NCK I/O or you can transfer via FC21 NC/PLC Data Transfer. The only other option is to fit new buttons connected to some free NCK inputs on the CPU card. Maybe if a Siemens guy reads this they can explain why we can read/write inputs and outputs in the WIZARD but not in the part program.

To use these inputs and outputs in the NCK, they must be interfaced to the NCK by using them to set fast NCK inputs DB10.DBX 122.0 = Input 9 ~ DB10.DBX129.7 = Input 40 The input can be processed by the NCK as the fast NC input variable. $A_IN[n] where n = Input 9-40 (inputs 1 - 8 are reserved for the system and cannot be used in this manner) The wizard refered to in the previous entry is HMI application, not a function of the NCK. shanny Posts: 44 Rating: (0)	Steve So we send information from the NCK up a cable to the HMI and back down to the PLC no problem but if we want to do this locally on the same card we can't even though there is a large internal interface between the NCK and PLC. Sorry but I still don't understand why a simple read/write of I/O is not possible. Historically all analogue 800 series systems could do it. shanny
