Adding space to existing DB?

Simatic.SV Advanced Member Joined: 11/5/2005 Last visit: 9/21/2025 Posts: 20 Rating: (1)	I need to add several datawords (DWs) to an existing datablock (DB) and then download it to the corresponding S7-300 PLC. By doing this, the existing values in the PLC will surely be overwritten by the initial values of the offline DB. How can I avoid this? How can I download or add space to an online DB, without affecting the existing values? Thank you very much.

The problem is that I already modified the offline DB, inserting the new address space, with corresponding names and comments. If I overwrite the offline DB with the online DB I suppose that I will loose the modifications I already made to the offline project. Any other suggestions?

hdhosseini Diamond Expert Joined: 1/28/2009 Last visit: 12/24/2025 Posts: 6885 Rating: (1368)	Dear member If the content of DB is the setpoints and analog value limits which are fixe over a period of time, loosing this data may cause problem of tuning process parameters again.To avoid so this is a feasible propose. Simply upload online project, create new element in DB and then download, no data loss. Check similar discussion here: Aristotelis panagiotis_sim but if i download it i will lose thw values and i will get the Default values.. How critical is your process? Can you do with a few seconds downtime? There's a handy little utility here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/s7dataarchiver/ 1) Store the DB data in a file 2) download the new DB 3) transfer the DB data from the file to the PLC. BR
