In the STL code below I am not sure of which data block the charcters 'ABCD' and EFGH' would be written to. Does DB_1 still have the focus or has it changed to DB5? OPN "DB_1"// Open data block with symbol DB_1 L DBD 12// Load value of Dword 12 in ACCU1 L DBD 16// Load value of Dword 16 in ACCU2 T DB5.DBD 14// Transfer value in ACCU2 to DB5.DBD14 TAK// Toggle values in ACCU1 and ACCU2 T DB5.DBD 10// Transfer value in ACCu2 to DB5.DBD10 L 'ABCD'// Load character values for ABCD in ACCu1 T DBD26// Which data block does this value transfer to? L 'EFGH'// Load character values for EFGH in ACCU2 T DBD 30// Which data block does this value transfer to? I have been a Mitsubishi programmer for the last 10 years so still finding my round S7.

James Mckenna Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	BV, Thanks for the prompt reply. I am assuming that the focus changed because DB5 was used in the last command? Just realized that i forgot to mention that "DB_1" is DB1 if that makes any difference

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 9/10/2025 Posts: 3049 Rating: (1062)	Hello James Mckenna that is correct, a so called "fully qualified DB access" (e.g. T DB5.DBD 14) will open the DB first via the "DB1" register and then access thevariable in the open DB and THIS FAQ has the offcial statement in it. In relation to thissubject, you may also find the follwoing FAQ useful : What is the difference between an instance data block and a global data block and how does a CALL call influence the DB register? Another possibility would be this one, working with two active DB's One is global DB (DB), the other one is instance DB (DI) All instructions with DB will refer to DB1; all instructions with DI will refer to DB5 Remark that i changed comments on instructions too. Load and transfer instructions always effect ACCU1 OPN DB1 // Open global data block DB1 OPN DI5 // Open instance data block DB5 L DBD 12 // Load value of DB1.DBD12 in ACCU1 L DBD 16 // Load value of DB1.DBD16 in ACCU1 (and transfer DBD12 to accu2) T DID 14 // Transfer value in ACCU1 to DB5.DBD14 TAK // Toggle values in ACCU1 and ACCU2 T DID 10 //Transfer value in ACCU1 to DB5.DBD10 L 'ABCD' // Load character values for ABCD in ACCU1 T DID26 // Transfer value to DB5.DBD26 L 'EFGH' // Load character values for EFGH in ACCU1 T DID 30 //Transfer value to DB5.DBD30 Kind regard, BV
