Thanks, -Seb It is a bit involved to set up the S7 communications the first time, but you just send the parameter for the encoder count a value of 0 as needed. If you use a CU305 PN, you do not need the profibus adapter, just an ethernet/profinet cable.

I assume I would have to pass the encoder value to the drive with WRREC? If so, can you give me a little detail how I would do that? I've looked at the WRREC RDREC stuff when i started this project but it never made sense to me. Thanks, -Seb

I've looked at the WRREC RDREC stuff when i started this project but it never made sense to me. Thanks, -Seb Yes the RD/WR REC commands to read/write parameter values. Since you know exactly what parameter, param set, value, you can preconfigure the DBs associated with the RD/WR REC transactions. It is an interesting state machine for the s7-1200 to send data to a drive (or control unit). I do not pretend to understand it but one of our applications engineers send sample code andwemanaged to make it work for s120 and g120 drives. There is aFAQ on this subject for G120 w/ s7-1200 to update ramp rate via profibus. The details in the DB structures are in the example. We used that detail to update ramp rate via profibus on g120 drives, and read/write data to s120 drives as well. If you can find a way to modify your telegram to read at least 1 more value, you can set the value to 1 to AND 0 with the encoder count parameter. You can try andsend encoder counts to the PLC and when the counts are 0, toggle that 1 back to 0. I'm not a drive expert, but if you are familiar with the functional diagrams of the s120's, you may find a much easier way - using cyclic data. If you can, I would urge you to avoid the pain of rd/wr rec as it's very difficult to troubleshoot. If the slightest thing is incorrect, it has zero tolerance and just fails to work. Post your results!
