MAS 5: using set5 for sms

saye Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	dear sir I want to have control over 20 distributed stations from a central station only by sending and recieving sms . is it possible to use set5 or set21?How can i do this ?

It depends on what you would like to do. Incase you are going to start or stop the operation with only sms then it is simple. Incase you are planning to monitor the performance and controlof all station from a central location,best solution would be to go for GPRS solution (MAS 21). You can do lot of things with this solution. Please go through the MAE (Micro Automation Example) to get a great idea for how to do. saye Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	hello sudhakar thank you for your answer.my problem is that in my countrythe gsm not include the gprs or data service and i only should use sms service.in this project in the stations the control is done by plc(s7-224xp)and in control center i should do some on/off and monitoring.do you think that the hardware and software which is considered in mas5 in "pump station" and "visulization station" is enough for this project? thank inadvace for your answer to my problem.

But i agree with sudhakar, that you should think about the costs in the case you want to implement a monitoring. Maybe in your Country is a provider-contract available with xxx SMS included/month? And also think a about that: Do you need confirmations to each properly received informaton?? tell me litte bit about your automation task. sounds interesting. Lifrsil

In this task there ara about 20 stations (in a water supply system).In each station a plc(s7-224xp)gets some analog and digital inputs and has some outputs to cotrol each pump.some of this data should be sent to central station via gsm network by sms let say every two hour .these data should be monitored in central station by wincc software and i needacknowledge of data in both sides. what do you think?do you think is it possible to use mas5? and idont know if it is possible to use md720-3 instead of tc65 in mas5 (for future use in case gprs service be available)? is it possible to use micro sc software or i shouldrun my own software to configure the modem? thanks in advance.

Why in your country is no GPRS available? in witch country do you live? Some calculation regarding the SMS-costs (only monitoring): 20 station, all 2 hours one sms to central station and one sms back in case of confirmation, 10 cent each sms --> 20(stations) * 30(days) * 24(hours per day) / 2(only 1 sms per 2hours) * 2(each sms with confirmation) = 14400 SMS a month Lets say each sms costs 10 cent..... would be 1440€ for SMS sending each month. Is this value ok for you? is there the possibilty to make a special contract with the provider? I think THIS are the first things you have to care about before thinking of the hardware. Because without GPRS this will be very cost intensive. bye Rush

If you want to have a up-to-date view to your station. lets say you want to have a momentary view to your system you should use SMS sending/receiving in this case. BUT: if you only want to have a kind of data-logger/archiver you should use a "phone-call-datatransmission" once per month. Because the phone-call-datatransmission is more expensive when you use it very frequently. But when you only use this once per month and transfer a big amount of data it is maybe more costeffektiv. Conclusion: From that what you wrote here in the forum you should use the SMS system i told you. But when you have the possibilty to be satisfied with data-logging once per month you should use phone-call-datatransmission. regards Lif
