S5 Program memory

yesid.hernandez Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I'm new to old PLC systems S5, my customer is having a problem when doing modigications to an existing program. They do the change and everything work perfect, but when the PLC get reset or they do a power up cycle, then the PLC executes the old program and not the one with the modifications. I thing that the point is about the use of memory in the S5 systems, the modification is loaded to the RAM memory and not saved to the EEPROM memory. I haven't found a manual that describe the procedure of saving the modifications to the EEPROM memory, so I'm looking for this information. Thanks a lot, for all you help in this issue

Depending on the CPU and if the Backup Battery is mantained propperly you can run the Processor without the EEprom, until you get the EEprom updated. To update you need a Eprom Eraserand Progamming Unit with S5 Programming Adapter. Please let me kow if you have one .

mohan morar Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hi, You don,t need a eprom eraser for an EEPROM. You need one of those Simatic PG units with an eprom adaptor. Stick the EEPROM into the adapter and slide it on the side of the PG unit.Than using the Simatic S5 program, you can delete the EEPROM, andload the new program on the EEPROM. EEPROM stands for electrical erasable programmable ROM

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	It is also possible in some CPUs to copy program to EEPROM (not EPROM) from RAM. So it is important that you give CPU part # and is possible EEPROM parts#. And Mohan is right EEPROM does not require EPROM Eraser (UV eraser) which are required only for EPROM. EEPROM stands for Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory and can be erasedfrom Step5.
