BCD HEX conversion error with counter

Hello all, having a weird issue with a counter. See picture attached. For starters this is typically how i use counters in Step7 because i don't know any other way to reference the CV of a counter besides giving the CV a word from a data block. I know in TIA you can simply just use "C998.CV" to reference it else where in the code. I know this method works and have done it before with no issues.

This counter's PV is determined when DB9.DW180 = 13, it then moves a value of 10 into DB10.DW8. This word is then placed in the counters PV. I then use another word (DB10.DW6) and place it in the CV so the counter writes to the word. I then later on in the code, compare the PV to the CV to determine when the counter has completed counting.

For whatever reason with this counter, as soon as i put DB10.DW6 into the counters CV, even if the value of it is already 0, and download to the PLC i get a BCD HEX conversion error with the OB121 CPU error. I have no idea why this is happening, like i said before i have done this before with-in the exact same PLC (s7-300). Whats odd is why can the PLC compile and download this if there's a programming error ? The other thing is my PV is clearly with-in 0-999. I am only moving a value of 10 into it so i am not exceeding the counters value. As long as i don't place the DB10.DW6 value into the CV spot of the counter, the PLC is happy with no issues.

Any one have any thoughts of what i am doing wrong or how to correct this ?
