Our equipment - 840D, MMC100, NCU box 13A, PCU20 ? and an really old copy of PCIN.

Came in the other day and had lost connection to the PLC. We've followed several methods of clearing out the NCK and the PLC with the S3 and S4 switches - have steady state green lights and 6 on the 7 segment display.So, we are fairly sure we got a good reset.

We have copies of 6955.NCK and 6955.PLC files on floppies from 12 years ago. The only method I have of reading them in to the MMC is with PCIN.

NCK first, right? Set the password, match up the Baud, Parity, stop bits, and start the file transfer. The NCK file starts reading. There are about 20 lines at the beginning of the file that look like they are creating directories and file locations, then there is a line in it that says _N_CFG_RESET_INI, and at that point, the file transfer stops and PCIN is just waiting. If I tell the MMC to start another upload, it does, and shows that it is connecting to the NCU and reads the rest of the file.

Does this seem wrong or right to anyone?

So, I carry on. NCK reset from the HMI and then start the PLC file upload. This one reads in but has several errors about something being "too log". Finishes with 810003 Asyncronous error - STEP7 required. I don't have STEP7.

NCK reset from HMI, and still have 2001 PLC has not started up.

Any ideas? Criticism? Smell something fundamentally wrong with the procedure? Do another reset, take the battery out for 20 minutes, pull the PCI card then start over? I sure don't like reading in the NCK file in 2 pieces like that. Does that seem correct?

I had read somewhere that the PLC needed to be "Stopped" to read in an archive, but the literature is sketchy at best. So, I am trying your method but with an extra PLC 3....2-3-2 move in there to clear that one as well.

Does it make sense that I should have to read the NCK file in 2 chuncks? Does _N_CFG_RESET_INI mean anything to you like it should stop the initial transmission of the NCK archive, because I have already kicked off another upload and it stopped at the same place again?

The more I try to get this NCK file loaded, the more I believe there is a syntax error in it. I am having a hard time getting a copy of the original file from Finn Power due to the machines age. Does anyone have a copy of an NCK file for an 840D that I could use for comparison?

But I did find a slightly hidden menu in my MMC called "Origin Config" I think, and that uploaded a complete NCK and PLC to the NCU straight from the MMC. It was old and didn't have all of our doctored config files (over-riden safety zones, multi tool set ups and the likes) but it did get the machine running. From there we just had to tweak the configs. We will definitely be doing some work to make our own back ups instead of relying on the manufacturers disks.
