I think the version control add-in dropdown is for third-party add-ins, I don't think V16 actually has real Git/SVN/TFS support. From what I can tell, you create your version control workspace (which is linked to a plain Windows folder) and export/import the XML from that. Outside of TIA, you then create a Git repo in that folder and go from there. I don't think there are any commit/merge/etc commands available directly in TIA without a third party add-in. |

I read the F1-Help in TIA Portal and it's as already described in the last post a few before this one. GIT would handle the version control, but at a windows folder level. It would be on you the user to manage it and make it useful. Just takes one person to check stuff in without stating why and you do not know what is in that check-in differs from the previous check-in. If you use AUVESY(tm) as your version control software, you get version control at the level you want because it understands SIemens hardware & software and will show you the history of your project data.

The thing that is not obvious is that after setting a workspace path you are supposed to drag and drop your objects from the "Project" side to the "Workspace" side on the Version Control Interface page. After that all the buttons start doing things and you can actually export. Siemens, this is terrible, why would anyone want to export only the contents of FBs, DBs, etc. We want to version control every aspect of the project, hardwareconfig, settings, structure, etc. As if it was an archive and restore. Ofcourse this will never be possible because everything is closed and for GIT to work properly you need plaintext files where you can see the difference between two versions of a file. It would have been better that this did not exist because Siemens will say "we have version control".. No you don't, you have a complicated way to import and export a limited amount of the information in a TIA project. |

Also got that far, tested the Import and Export functions, for change tracking this is a real improvement. Already have Add-In's installed but those don't show up in the drop down list. |

The file needs to end with .addin and it will show up in the add-ins folder. |
We are working on a new user interface with better overview and more relevance.
