S7-1200 Without IP.

The problem is.. when I try to connect the plc to the my Pc. using the TIA portal,(and after using the s7 tool, etc) I can't do a communication (because I don't know teh ID of plc, and Ican't discover it, because exists a kind of protection, the device do not appear in scans)with plc. In software, the device do no appear, so I think it may be a problem of software or something like that,but I don't know. The truth is, I spend a lot of time search ways to solve this problem and, every results I had, they cannot helpme. So if anyone here can help me, I thank you a lot.

It is something I have had some difficlty with too. And to be honest.. maybe it was pure dumb luck that resolved the issue. Unluckily I can not say for a fact what helps. In the attached JPG it shows x2 device discovery methods. It seems as though both do not use the same method.. so make sure you try both. Method #2 seems to have the most luck. Depending on which TIA version you have, there seems to be an extra "search all" type discovery (selectable) in method #2. If all else fails.. Try connecting the PLC to a switch. Any PC network switch will do. If the switch has WiFi (like some home modems have) then even better. Connection by WiFi via a switch (or router) seems to have the least troubles. Please let us know what version of TIA you have. Tell us also if any of my ideas brings any hope. With this feedback, I am sure the experts will be able to help out. I don't know if the problems came from here. Butin this way I'll be know. I saw too,some people do not recommend running TIA in VirtualBox's, but in my "way" it is completely neccessary do in this way. So, I had the V12, but at this moment Ihave the V11. I do not try the your second recomendation, but if it do not work(again) I will try your way. So thank you

So thank you I use V11 SP2 inside XP Mode/Virtual PC and it has worked well for as long as V11 has been available. It was not until recently that I installed V12/V13 onto the Win7-64 bit main computer. I do miss the isolation of the virtual machine with V12/V13. Hopefully you have already installed the latest service pack and update to your V11 and it is working for you. Try using the s7-1200 setup tool - https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?func=cslib.csinfo&lang=en&objid=41737436&caller=view Set the address and then you know what it is.

So i have made a call to siemens in my contry and they say, it may be better change the equipment because this one maybe was damaged. So in that "joke" I will try another way,and if I was succeed I post here. but after all, the most strange thing here, its when I put the ethernet cable in my pc, the led of Rx/Tx blinking for a long time, and the led of Link stays green until I turn off the cable of my pc (or until I turn the supply off). Let's go again...

Install a network switch between the plc and your pc 2. Use a different network cable 3. Use a usb Ethernet network adapter 4. If the plc is in run mode (green solid on the run/stop led), the plc has a valid ip address. If you know what subnet it is in, you can change your network lan adapter to be in the same subnet. For example, if you think it is 192.168.0.1, you can set your pc lan adapter to 192.168.0.100 and see if you can ping the plc. 5. If you do not know the details of the plc other than the mac address, you can use wireshark to see more details about the plc, especially when it powers up. 6. If you have a s7-1200 compatible memory card, you can insert a card prepared to transfer the plc programming to the memory card. Then you can update the program on your PC to set the ip address and reload the memory card to force the ip address. It is probably less expensive to simply buy a replacement controller and send that one back for evaluation/repair or warranty replacement.

Silvafmj Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	well, here I am. W/ some good news... When I contact Siemens they told me about an another software to made a connection. PRONETA! I used this one, and it works! (out of virtual machines) That one gave me opportunity to change the IP of PLC, and gave me too opportunity to try a little communication to him. The option "indicate device", put the device we choose blinking all the leds. When I enter in virtual machine it change again, its impossible to do communication, BUT that situation shows me something... so, the CPU isn't damaged, and all the problems would maybe from VirtualBox settings. Thanks for all tricks to help me.

Tried to use S7-1200 Tool - 2.0.0.5, no sucess! Tried to use SIMATIC Automation Tool, no success! Tied to use Primary Setup Tool, no sucess! Installed the Proneta just after reading you post, bang! It found the two devices on my network: The plc and the KTP900.
