Hi Dear Experts,

I am seeking your help regarding choosing drive components for my application. I have a machine which has a 1FW6160 torque motor. I want to select a single axis SINAMICS S120 drive. The problem is that I am not sure which modules to use since SIEMENS drives are modular. I just know that it may include 6SL3120 and CU310-2 PN modules.

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. 

I have downloaded the SIZER and I am using it now. it is great. 

But I have some ambiguity using it in designing my project:

1) As my machine has two axes, I do not have any idea to use S120 multi axes or two single axis. or equally, S120 AC/AC or DC/AC.

and regarding the encoder:

2) I am using a third party encoder with output as: incremental square wave  A and b signals. there is not any SMC compatible with this.

3) The SMC30 module receives HTL/TTL encoder signals but it is not configurable for 1FW6 motors.

4) When configuring encoder evaluation, there are three choices: no external encoder, encoder evaluation only, and external encoder. naturally I should select external encoder but if done so, at the next box which is encoder type, there is just a choice for external encoder with Drive-CLiQ which is not my case. so I have to select "encoder evaluation only".  

After choosing"encoder evaluation only", I should select among sensor modules for evaluation. the choices are: 

Encoder evaluation with SME 120

Encoder evaluation with SME 125

Encoder evaluation with TM120+SMC20

Encoder evaluation with TM120+SMC40

I am not sure which one matches my configuration.

I don't see a reason why you cannot use a SMC30.  It does look like Starter does want you to use other modules, but encoder evaluation is encoder evaluation and the drive just cares about a number over a DRIVE-CLiQ cable.

That is going to be tricky in any condition if you are running SERVO control with determining the pole position alignment.  I'm not sure how to do that with a torque motor.

Actually the encoder evaluation problem is still unsolved for me and prevents me from ordering the equipment.

The problem is that SME modules also do not support HTL/TTL encoder outputs. I have attached entries regarding this problem from SIZER help.

As good news, the CU310-2 has a HTL/TTL encoder interface. But I think it is better for me to use CU320-2.

I would appreciate any help.
