I'm new to wincc and I'm having trouble created a simple toggle button. I'm using a regular button a bypass button and when I press the button I expect the button to say "bypassed" and when I press it again to release and say "bypass" but it doesn't seem to work. 

under the events tab I use a setbit when I press the button and when released a resetbit. This doenst seem to work?

If you're using element 'button' then in events tab highlight 'click' and choose 'InvertBit' form the <Add function> drop-down menu.

But ideally you want to use a 'switch' element and 'switch ON', 'switch OFF' events + 'switch with text' mode format

the invert bit will change the text on button?

 Yes, you can see the options at "Properties -> General". Select Mode: Text ->  Label: Text -> Text when button "pressed".

 Only 1 way you can make this, make the text list (Text ON, Text OFF), then in Property -> General -> Lable -> Choose Text List & Tag Process affect to text you want to display.

I would use the Toggle function and tried to reproduced the action in the video. Even started from scratch with the same names. I use Tia Portal V16. 

Afterwards I compiled the little program to the HMI (KTP700). I used the InvertBit but the buttons on the screen stay momentary. They turn green for a moment and return to gray.

Would could I do wrong?

check the Tags you are using on the Button for dynamisation also in an IO fiels.

check which value they have

It could be also a logical error
