I have a CPU 1513 and a TP1200 comfort panel.

On the HMI, I have a Time/Date field to show the current time. But the time shows April 2016, just as it says in the HMI settings.

Is there a way to automatically change the time?

you can synchronize HMI time with PLC time by using either NTP or the corresponding area pointer.

As Prof Frink said,It's better to synchronize the panel with the PLC because in case of power supply interruption the CPU clock is sustained by battery, unlike the PLC in case of Power supply interruption some kind of panel without battery don't sustain the clock, that the reason why it's better to synchronize the panel with the PLC.

My question is how do i get the actual time on the HMI.

Now I have made in the Connections -> HMI time sync mode, that the HMI is a slave to the PLC. So every 10 min the HMI system time is updated to the PLC system time. But the PLC system time is 1 hour ahead of my local time. How do I change the system time for the PLC?

If it is possible to do it from a 'field' on the HMI, so that the customer also can change it to their timezone, that would be amazing :)

you can set the time zone in the operating system of the panel (incl. daylight saving). You have to make the same setting in the properties of the PLC. I don't know, if you can manage the settings in the PLC by tags resp. by the code.

The project I am working on is a stand-alone unit that will be 'mass'-produced, so I am looking for the way that takes the shortest time, as I have to do it every single time :)

So as I see it, I have 2 options:

1: Use the system time of the HMI. In this way, I need to change the date, time and timezone in the settings of the HMI, and not depend on the PLC.

2: Use the local time of the PLC. In this way, I need to change the timezone in the properties of the PLC and then set the time on the PLC to the PG/PC time. Here I also need to read the local time into a tag, and use an area pointer in the HMI to get the date/time over to the HMI. In this way, can I then change the system time of the HMI, so it corresponds to the PLC local time?

// If I use 'Global area pointer of HMI device' instead of 'Area pointer' in 'Connections', then the HMI system time is synchroniazed to the PLC local time every cycle that I chose.

What way, would you think is the best?

I just want to give an update on how I have done it now, if others have the same problem :)

1. In the program code read the local time (RD_LOC_T). Read the first bit of the RET_VAL of the function. If this bit is TRUE then set a new tag (DST), else FALSE.

2. In 'Scheduled tasks' of the HMI set a function that calls a script every 1 minute. In this script make a SetDaylightSavingTime function to the tag (DST). This will automatically switch between summer/winter time.

3. Go to 'Connections' and set 'HMI synchronization mode' to slave (this way the PLC is the master, and updates the HMI system time every 10 min or every time a connection is established).

4. Go to the 'Properties' of the PLC and set the time zone to the desired time zone, and download the hardware configuration to the PLC.

5. Go online on the PLC and in 'Online & Diagnostic' find 'Functions' and set time modules time from your PG/PC time.

6. Go to the 'Settings' of the HMI and in 'Date/Time' change the time zone to the desired time zone.

Now the system time of the HMI should correspond to the local time of the CPU.
