Hi,

im new to siemens logo so please bear with me

i have a control cabinet from a used piece of machinery which contains 2 siemens oba7 logo modules connected to a csm ethernet switch. I need to access the programming and it came with an ethernet cable connected to the csm module.

I have got myself a copy of the logo software v8.1 and connected up the power and the ethernet cable.

I go to the network tab and add a new oba7 device, the ip address is automatically added as 192.168.0.1, i then try to connect, after a moment i get a dialogue box saying my laptop and plc have a different subnet would i like plc soft to add a local ip, i say yes, i then get a windows firewall box asking me if java can make changes to my system, i say yes, it then tells me it has succesfully added 192.168.0.254, then it tries to connect and fails.

Im not very knowledgable with ethernet so i dont really know where to start so i was hoping someone could suggest if i am going the right way about reading the program and also how to get the ethernet connection working..

the controllers are running a sequence of valves and motors on a piece of machinery, the machine is new to me, hence i dont have originals of the programs.

what i i wou like to do is connect to the controllers and debug them and to watch and potentially modify the sequence.

in the network tab if i add a new device the fetails will be

ip. 192.168.0.1

subnet mask 255.255.255.0

and if i open the settings on the pc after the sequence described above the pc details are

ip.192.168.0.254

subnet mask 255.255.255.0

I just went back to the computer and tried ipconfig in command prompt to find the ip of the computer but it doesn't show anything, all of the devices claim to be working in device manager but I cannot find an ethernet adapter in logo soft.

will connecting to wifi help?

so I brought the computer into the office, if I do ipconfig/all when not connected to any networks then I get media disconnected returned for my wifi and ethernet adapters and no ip address shown and no ethernet adapter shown in logo soft, as soon as I connect to my internet either via wifi or ethernet the adapter works fine, shows an ip address and in logo soft shows the ethernet card and ip address.

So ifs the correct thing to do to get the plcs where I can get wifi, connect wifi, connect ethernet to the switch, use the go online function and try to find them?
