Hello cq; To dispell any remaining doubts: - a PG (also called a field-PG) is a programming unit designed (and sold) by Siemens in order to program their CPUs. It often comes as a laptop, with installed software and communication intetfaces related to S7 PLCs (these days, the first PGs were used to program S5 PLCs). As an example you could look at this presentation of their latest model, the PG M6: https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/automation/systems/industrial/simatic-field-pg.html - you can also build-up yoir own PC or laptop to program a Siemens PLC. But then you must purchase and license every required software yourself, and install the communication interfaces required. This is your programming PC. On top of these distinctions, when you want to parametrize the comm interfaces between a PG or a PC and a Siemens CPU, you must use an application called "PG/PC interface" which connects the comm drivers for the selected interface and allows the programming software to connect to a CPU. Hope this helps, |
