Using WinCC Modbus Driver

ARN2011 Advanced Member Joined: 7/16/2011 Last visit: 8/16/2024 Posts: 24 Rating: (0)	Dear All, I want to know is it possible to connect a third party PLC directly to WinCC through Modbus TCP Driver interface. As the real system is not currently available I want to know what will happen if perform the following actions: 1- In WinCC Tag Management add new driver channel "Modbus TCPIP.chn" 2- In the newly added cahnnel add a new driver connection 3- In the connection properties there are only three Modicon PLC classes named 984, Compact/Quantum/Momentum and Premium/Micro The problem is here, our project PLC is not any of the listed PLC's neither from Schneider (former Modicon). My questions are: A- Which PLC should I select in this menu if the PLC is not from Schneider (i.e. not in the drop down menu)? B- Anyway if I select one of the PLC's and define some tags will it communicate communicate withought any further steps? Thank you in advance for your advice. Attachment pic.JPG (1739 Downloads)

Best regards Hello ARN2011, Then someone who is having a real experience with the same device and WinCC using MODBUS TCP can comment on it. But the simple way should be trial and error.

Basically, selectCPU"Modicon Compact, Modicon Quantum, Modicon Momentum"and the modbus address of the slave equipment. And it should work after. Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

One was hardware device, ACT'L eWON 2005 RTU and the other was software modbus slave application. I succssed successfully to read/write data from/to these parties. Here is a WinCC screenshot of Modbus PLC I used. The only problem I faced was with the tag address. I did not realise that 4x in WinCC means 40000 or something and only the offset should be entered into the tag address. I solve the problem my using test modbus slave, ant the slave shows me which address WinCC realy tries to request. Some devices that fit the protocol, will work. Some others - will not. However, some OPC server with Modbus TCP connection solves the problem. OPC's of this kind are usually not for free, but I have found several very, very cheap solution, easy to engineering, and reliable. I am sharing one with you, that saved my life :) http://www.lectussoft.com/ When you configure the OPC, it is your job to add OPC channel in WinCC, and set connection by the book. It will work.
