Does EASY MOTION CONTROL V2.x need any licence?

is_razi Experienced Member Joined: 3/13/2009 Last visit: 7/12/2025 Posts: 132 Rating: (1)	Hi there, I'd recently downloaded the easy motion control V2.X from the support center of siemens and I installed it.but it doesn't request for licence key and it seems that it works properly however I have no idea if it will work forever or if it will bring up a message for some limitations in the future .I'm wondering if this software needs any kind of licences or not? can somebody guide me about this case please? thanks very much.

EMC needs a license for the engeneering(ES license) and for every CPU (RT license)it runs on to be legal. But in STEP 7 V5.x there is no technical check of the licenses. For STEP 7 >=V11 the engeneering licence is required to run the software.

is_razi Experienced Member Joined: 3/13/2009 Last visit: 7/12/2025 Posts: 132 Rating: (1)	Actually I've downloaded theSP_1_EMC_2_1 file from support center .At first i thinked its just a service pack but when I tryed to install that (for step7 5.5) it didn't requst for any previously installed emc version and installed like a complete software. sorry what do you mean by RT licence for each cpu? Does it mean that I must buy licences for each cpu I want to use and install them on the cpu itself. thanks.

This is the official text (from Siemens Mall): ------------------------snipp----------------------- Licensing The function blocks of Easy Motion Control require one runtime license for each CPU onto which they are loaded. The engineering interface for STEP7 up to V5.5 is included in Easy Motion Control V2.1 and can be installed without license. The engineering interface for STEP7 V11 or higher (TIA Portal) is included in Easy Motion Control V11 and requires one floating license per installation used, which is provided by a CoL and a license key on a USB stick. ---------------snipp--------------------- The Runtimelicenses are just a paper and are only required for legal reasons, not for technical reasons.
