S7-1200 communication to a barcode printer

Is it possible to communicate with a barcode printers by Profinet, when the printer has an Ethernet port. Or, you can only send data to the printer via a serial port. How to add the printer in the hardware configuration? And how do you send data via Ethernet? I want to send the length, number and a barcode, to the printer.

Pittiplatsch Posts: 1368 Rating: (128)	Hello mrjorgen, if the barcode scanner supports PROFINET, you can add this module via GSDML into the hardware configuration. The IO-device has normallyinput and output addresses for the status and control byte and for the user data. Otherwise you can communicate with the scanner via open communication and e.g. TCP/IP. Therefore, there are the T-blocks available. Good luck, Pittiplatsch

Then u might be able to set the ip & port address for the printer(PLC ,HMI & Printer in same network) ..Through TCP communcation u will be able to send the data to the printer by forming a frame by means of using the String Concat function.. A sample code for tcp code in the following link /tf/WW/en/Posts/49723 concat the data's u have to send & send the data..No need to add printer in the Harware Config... Regards, Nelliyan.G
