Hi everyone,

I'd like to share a node-red node with you that enables you to:

• access state of any input pin (D0-D13)
• access state of user button on the device
• set state and colour of user LED (off, green, orange, red)

To install, unzip the attached archive and copy the contained directory to '/usr/lib/node_modules/node-red/nodes'.

You will then have two new nodes available in node-red:

• IOT2000 User LED:
  Pass the desired LED state as payload of the input:

  - "green" or "1" for green colour
  - "orange" or "2" for orange colour
  - "red" or "3" for red colour
  - any other input for off state

• IOT2000 Digital Input:
  In the configuration panel of the node select the desired input (digital pins D0-D13 or the user button) and specify how often (in milliseconds) the input should be read.
  The node then outputs 0 or 1 at every change of the input pin state.

 How do i copy the Contents of the Archive to '/usr/lib/node_modules/node-red/nodes' ? Thanks for any hints.

Where are the Input Pins D0 to D13 ? How can i connect a digital sensor to any of the Input Pins D0 to D13? And why do i have to configure a scan interval? Must i poll the Input? Isn't it possible to configure a callback so that whenever the Input Signal changes, some function is called? I would like to realize an Event driven I/O System.

And are there Output Pins as well?

Again, what do you mean with "digital sensor"? Something that just outputs 0 or 1 or some I2C or SPI-like application?

You don't have to poll the input yourself, the node does it for you (that's why you have to enter a polling interval) and only notices you on changes on the input. When you choose a short enough interval, that's close to an event-driven behaviour.

And where/how can i configure wether a pin is an Input or Output? What Voltage does an Input pin Need, what voltage an Output pin?

Behind the left cap. The pinout is Arduino-compatible so just have a look at the Arduino (Uno) pinout.

It depends on the way you are interfacing the IOs. Have a look at the mraa library example programs: https://github.com/intel-iot-devkit/mraa/tree/master/examples

 Hi, i have done as per your reply but i only have the SIMATIC IOT2000 Digital Input but not the user led

For example you can use WinSCP to copy the folder.

You can copy data from the Windows filesystem per Drag&Drop to the filesystem of the IOT2000.

 Sorry, i had used a wrong path to select the files. The other path contained partial files. Now after using the correct path the other node is here.

This is a useful contribution to the current image release!

However, I think we should address this gap on the long run via the underlying abstraction library mraa. Two reasons for that:

• The abstractions would be accessible to any user of mraa (C++, Python, nodejs), not only Node-RED.
• We can more easily encapsulate the differences in GPIO numbers across the upcoming kernel version change (your node will break on those kernels).
  

Note that the need for polling on digital input changes is gone with the latest developer image from https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2000.
