I read on here you can update all modules using

npm update -g

I did this but now node-red will not start. Seems something may have gone wrong. I still have it checked to auto start but typing node red gives the following error

please try  

npm install -g --unsafe-perm node-red

to update node-red. That works for me every time.

Hi, 

looks like you don't have an internet connection. 

If you are using an IOT2040 you can use port X2 which is configured as dhcp by default. Otherwise use an WiFi USB dongle.

I'm wondering about the same problem how to update node red. 

Thanks for your suggestions. Do I have to do this commands when I'm in the node red folder? Or can I type in the commands within the root directory?

I have that fail message when trying to update node red. 

Waht does it mean? Internetconnection is available as you can see at the top of the picture. I'm able to ping google.

Looks like there is no internet connection.. 

But the command you entered is not the right one. 

Use npm install -g --unsafe-perm node-red.

now i have done the upgrade as you described, and the node-red is now v0.20.8. Now i have the following message in node-red: 

"Verwenden einer nicht unterstützten Version von Node.js Sie sollten ein Upgrade auf das neueste LTS-Release von Node.js durchführen."

but i can not upgrade node.js. the version is still (node -v  --> v6.14.3).

The latest version of node-red working with node.js v6.14.3 is 0.19.5.
I've tested 0.19.5 and it works fine.

Try:

npm install -g --unsafe -perm node-red@0.19.5
