Your question is a bit confusing: TON (Generate On-Delay) is one of the IEC Timer instructions in Step 7 TIA Portal. Some of the other IEC Timer instructions include TP (Generate pulse), TOF (Generate Off0-Delay), TONR (Retentive On-Delay timer)...

Hello.

You are speaking of the 'datatype' declaration in the STAT parameters of an FB when using a timer.

IEC_TIMER is the parent type, while TON_TIME is the sub type. Earlier generations of the S7-1200 used TON_TIME, TONR_TIME, TOF_TIME and TP_TIME for multi-instances inside an FB. Later on the preferred method was using IEC_TIMER, where IEC_TIMER can represent any timer type.

The usage of IEC_TIMER in SCL needs to be told in code what type of timer is in use.

timer1 : IEC_TIMER // definition
timer1.TON(...) // usage

So.. what specifically is the problem that brought this question to the users' forum?
