Some MPI Interfaces can do 12 Mb/s, but 13,2 is not possible. |

What I found is that the transmission speed of an RS485 can reach 12 MBauds, and given that RS485 is a physical support for MPI as well as Profibus, I concluded that MPI can reach 12MBauds. |

I found, from a SIEMENS document, that the CPU IM151-7 transmission speed is "exactly" 12 Mbps, which is equivalent to 13,2 MBauds. |

Hello allayahassine let me start byclaimingthat you as well as our friendIBN-Serviceare both correct, albeitIBN Service isabsolutely correct. You are generally correct that the terms bpsmustnot be confused with theterm baud. Whereas bps isthe number ofbits per second, baud is number of symbols per second and these two values can differ (commonly found when moduation based transmissions are used where a symbol can contain multiple encoded bits so you can for example have 1200 baud but an effective bitrate of 4800 bps). Profibus DP is though NRZ (Non return to Zero) encoded, so a bit represents a symbol (and vice versa) which means that bps is the same as baud. The same applies forMPI which is Siemens proprietary subset of Profibus DP (butuses the same physical Layer). In sums: 12 Mbps = 12 Mbaud in case of Profibus DP and MPI and I hope this helps |
