I have exhausted as much analysis on the encoder mounting and feedback as I can and although it is not completely perfect it is well within the spec that Heindenhain describes. I have checked and double checked the motor data entered against the data sheet provided to me from Servax and can find no descrepency. All control directions are consistent and all motion is controlled. The machine gets through several cycles without any issue. The encoder has been replaced once and pole position ID has been done (P1983) several times in various positions and fine syncronization (P1990) has been done any time an adjustment has been made to the encoder.

Being that I'm able to get through roughly 3 consecutive parts (35 minute cycle time each part) with no problem but after that I can consistently reproduce the fault again and again it seems to me there is some kind of thermal issue. The motor in question is third party (Servax) and is not sending any thermal feedback to the drive system. What I would really like to know is what this "Motor Model Monitoring" is really doing, and if there is any potential harm in disabling it.

I would like to add that after only a short break in between parts after a failure (maybe 20 - 30 min) I disabled the motor model monitoring and I was able to run a recut on one part and then two consecutive full blanks without any failure. I will send todays parts to inspection tomorrow morning to see if disabling motor model monitoring had any ill effect on the performence of the machine.
