S7-CPU Migration - replacing obsolete modules

chanlu Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am working as an application engineer at a company doing PLC . I am just a fresh graduate and had not much working experience on PLC programming. Now I received a small project which is basically an upgrading project of replacing obsolete modules with new replacment modules. I basically understand that i need to upload the project to my PC and download to new CPU module. But what are the steps to do behind it ? Do i need to change anything in the programming ? Hardware Configurations and tags ? I have attached the obsolete part numbers and replacements part numbers. Please take a look and kindly help me. Much appreciation ! Chan Lu Hello, here some suggestions: 1. I basically understand that i need to upload the project to my PC and download to new CPU module. The questions here is, do you have a trustable, documented, and recent PLC programm backup? If not, then loock for it, if it is not posible to get it then yes upload the actual PLC program to your PG, be aware no ducumentation/symbols/comments will be avaiable. 2. But what are the steps to do behind it ? As Mentioned in the previus point, the first step will be to have a good backup (or at least the uploaded one), well once you have it you should analize the hardware, and then select the repacements for each module (something that somebody has already done in your case), then what i recomend is to open your PLC backup or project then open the HW configurator in simatic manager and just replace the modules following the described procedure: a) Select the module you want to replace. b) Right click on it. c) Select "Replace Object" option. d) Another sub-menu will appear, in which you can select the replacement for the old module. e) Confirm your changes each time. f) Finally save and compile your HW. This procedure will work ok if the propper suscesors were selected! if not then you will have to perform some diferent steps. 3.Do i need to change anything in the programming ? No other thing than HW, but again this statement is valid only if the repalcements are the right ones. Please Follow the the manuals and links provided in the previus posts, for this specific situation you can get advice but not a whole solution. If you have further questions please let us know. Another question I would like to know the answer is that now I am using the TIA Portal to do most of my programming. My question is whether I am able to use TIA Portal for above project that I mentioned ? Or must I use Step 7 Classic ? Best Regards, Nyein Chan Lu
