I am communicating a cummins controller with CP-341.Application is to get genset data from controller to CPU but the problem is that i have Modbus slave (RTU) with me,is it possible to stablish communication with same or i have to use Modbus master (RTU).

Is thier any difference of hardware between the master & slave dongles ?

It is no problem, because both drivers are the same price, and you can only use one of them on the same time....

If you mean an ASCII protocol, it is supported nativelyon the CP 341, along with 3964R and RK512. You do not need a dongle for these communication links. Indformation on “straight” ASCII communications is available here:

If however you mean Modbus ASCII (the Modbus protocol coded in ASCII) then you need a loadable driver and therefore a dongle.

In order to use the CP with loadable drivers, you require a dongle. The dongle with identification number 6ES7870-1CA00 is supplied with the driver.

Notice that in both manuals the product (and dongle) are refered to by the same part number:
