correct syntax to call TON

Either an array of TON_TIME or an array of structs with TON_TIME as an member gives the same result For example [code]FUNCTION_BLOCK "LubricationProcess" VERSION : 0.1 VAR RETAIN heads : Array[0..4] of Struct lubricationFreq : Int; "timer" : TON_TIME; END_STRUCT; "localTimer" : TON_TIME; END_VAR VAR_TEMP i : Int; END_VAR BEGIN #anyActive := false; For #i := 0 To 4 Do // this is not allowed #heads[#i].timer(IN:= true, PT:=T# End_If; ; End_For; localTimer(IN:= true, PT:=T#250ms); END_FUNCTION_BLOCK[/code] The workaround is to have a FC that has a TON_TIME as an InOut parameter an reference the Timer from there. [code]FUNCTION "LubricationPointRun" : Void VERSION : 0.1 VAR_IN_OUT "this" : TON_TIME; END_VAR BEGIN #this(IN:= true, PT:=t#250ms); END_FUNCTION[/code] The question is what is the correct syntax to call TON in the above For loop?

Perhaps if you convert and use IEC_Timer rather than TON_TIME, you can work directly in the FB and not have to deal with the workaround of the FC In/Out param.

Ok, I clicked F1-Help, entered IEC_TIMER and then looked in the list of topics. Ran across this little tidbit: In V13 anyhow, IEC_TIMER is for global DB timers, and TON_TIME is for static TON_TIME in blocks. Using it within a structure in the way you seem to want is not allowed. If you explained what you were trying to accomplish, perhaps we could help find the right solution and syntax to support that need.

0_Einstein Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 12/23/2025 Posts: 16325 Rating: (2520)	Here is an example showing a Global DB IEC_TIMER and local timer is TON_TIME inside an FB. Pass in the IEC_TIMER from main to the FB and inside it is TON_TIME. This example matches the F1-Help documentation and compiles. See image.
