Tomithy Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, I am building a project for a college degree course and am looking for some help! I want to control a stepper motor from a Siemens Step 7 1200 DC/DC/DC processor. I have seen some tutorials on youtube but am still having trouble with the programming aspect of it. I know I need to configure, create a PTO DB but I'm still having trouble with the whole thing. Could anyone help me with programming examples or even point me in the direction of a comprehensive tutorial or manual? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Tom

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1204)	Hi-ya Tom, Have a look at the Siemens CE-X7 example [LINK]. Ignore the fact that the example is based on control of a servo motor. This is open loop control that works for stepper motors too. Also download the motion control function manual for the S7-1200. A version of this can be found here: [LINK]. Make sure that you get the version of the manual that suits the version of your software. Feel free to come back to this discussion if you have these materials in hand. Greetings. w

I had a look at the first link you sent, it was very helpful in letting me understand how to set up the axis control datablock but the second link you sent, I downloaded the file but it was somehow corrupted and would not open. I think I may also need to have a newer version of the software in order to create the command table? Is there anywhere, that you know of where I could find a sample program which would show me exactly how to get the stepper motor moving from the program? I am going to need the stepper motor to move in both directions depending on the program I am designing. I really appreciate your help on this. Regards, Tom

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1204)	Tom, Have a look again at the example (first link). There are examples for TIA11, TIA12 and TIA13.. given as ZIP files. Everything you are asking for is there. When you have opened the example program you can click on a block and press the F1 key on your keyboard to call up the HELP function. You can easily go between all the documentation for these function blocks once you are there. If the second link did not work, use a search engin looking for: "S7-1200 motion control function manual" It is a PDF file. This contains a lot of information and include examples. Even the full S7-1200 system manual contains all the information you need ("9.3 Motion Control" in my manual) The options for creating movement: * Jog...................... easiest to use * Velocity * Relative positioning * Absolute positioning.........requires Homing * Motion table...........can be tricky Whichever you use, you must have a Power function block. I got the PDF of the manual and it does seem to explain all I need to know, and I was right, my version of the software needs updating, but I'll sort that out! Again, many thanks for your help!
