Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	In addition to the two options mentioned by Freddy, you can also use IndustrialDatabridge - http://www2.automation.siemens.com/hmi/html_76/products/software/wincc_optionen/industrial-data-bridge.htm PM-OPEN-EXPORT - http://www2.automation.siemens.com/hmi/html_76/products/software/wincc_addons/wcc_addon_pm_open_export.htm Ideally you should have an idea of how you want the data presented, what type of data you want to export, how much coding are you prepared to develop, how much money do you wish to spend, do you want ad-hoc reporting, fixed reports or both, etc.. If you ask yourself all these questions then it will help determine which option is right for you.

Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	WinCC V6 uses Microsoft SQL Server and therefore the same rules that apply to SQLServer now apply to WinCC [:(] I am afraid there is no "free" way to export historical data ( - only a "free" way to export current tag values using OPC). If you wish to export WinCC runtime data (Tag Logging or Alarm Logging) then you must purchase one of the above options. The cheapest option is the Connectivity Pack (CP) and will allow you to write a script in WinCC to export the data. I have done this plenty of times and if you buy the CP then I can forward you example scripts.

Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	There is another way...free of charge. You can program a VBS script in WinCC runtime that starts ie every 10 minutes. This script looks for DB's that are historical (you could make some settings in the alarm logging that it should create a backup of the database files). When the script find those db's , you could start "DTSrun". Open the SQL Server and look in the Help for DTS / DTSrun utility. What I did: Created a DTS Package in SQL Server that does the following: It attaches the Database files (.mdf & .ldf) that are given to him by global variables when being called for. Then it prcesses all containing data (ie, rermoves not needed columns etc). After this has been completed it writes the data that is left to a Comma Separated File. Think this is all you need, and it's free. Only "thing" is that you are not sure if WinCC keeps all table names etc the same whenever you switch to a new wincc version (but then it's a small change I think). My concern is about compressed archive data: How do you handle compressed data? I don't think that this is possible with your script, although DTS is very powerfull [:D] Isn't the compression done by WinCC itself and not by means of SQL functions? At this point I am not sure...[:blush:]

My understanding, after talks with the WinCC Product Managers, is that ANY access to the SQL Server databases is covered by a licence. Microsoft demand this and so Siemens have no real choice but to enforce it. At a minimum you must buy the Connectivity Pack (and WinCC CALs for remote machines) to have a legal and fully licenced system. Yes you can technically access the databases without a licenced option BUT doing this will put you in violation of the licencing agreement. Your solution works but it is neither supported not legal (to use a strong term ! ) Sorry to keep going on about this. It is a shame that it is not more clearly stated in the WinCC literature.

"AlgViewEnu" or something like that. Salma: If I want to keep this solution, what additional licenses do I need to purchase to keep it legal? Thanks in advance.

Reuben Posts: 70 Rating: (14)	Hi ANY access to the WinCC MS SQL Server instance requires a Client Access License (CAL), be it from WinCC, Excel, an ASP web page or some custom VB/Delphi application. WinCC internally is licenced to do this, and the Connectivity Pack includes a CAL for MS SQL Server. I think if you buy a SQL Server CAL from Microsoft for each PC that accesses the SQL server (assuming you do not buy the Connectivity Pack) then it should be legal. In order to access the compressed archive data however, I really think you need the Connectivity Pack - this gives an OLE DB provider that you can query with SQL, and it will handle the de-compression of the data.
