muneeb Posts: 171 Rating: (0)	Hi there.. I am upgrading an S5 program into S7. As i upload the program from PLC i see some blocks which are not convertable in "converting s5 files" tool. In the documents, i see a COMREG block and some other blocks for send, recieve and synchronize. Can anyone tell me what is COMREG? regards muneeb uddin Saudi arabia

I have seen COMREG as part of a closed-loop parametrization package for an IP 252 controller, on a PG 685 (yeah, rather old system) if I remember correctly. I don't remeber that it was dowloaded as part of the program, but I may have forgotten that part. For newer PGs and the MS-DOS versions of Step 5, I believe COMREG was replaced with a COM 252 [package. I heard COMREG was also used, in the same capacity, for the R24 controllers of the S5-135U family, setting for closed-loop parameters. If this is the case, and you want to use an external closed-loop controller in your new S7 process controller, you would need a FM355/455 in your rack; the parameter software is used through the HWConfig editor, and does not appear in the S7 program. In DB2is the information which controller on which time will be called, you don't have to do anymore then that to call the (COMREG) controllers. Further have every controller a datablock of around 500..600 bytes (I'm not realy sure about the length) and there must be a FB102 which is the functionblock with the PIDcontroller itself.

Just to make sure, what i understand from COMREG is, its a package in S5software which uses FB102 in order to control the Analog outputs for PID Loops and its not some hardware.. I am having 2 Analog output moduels in my existing hardware.if i want to upgrade the program which have fb102 and db2, i cannot see its equal block in S7 while conversion. Can you inform me or guide me more about COMREG? i have to upgrade UHT machine.

GrzegorzG Posts: 63 Rating: (19)	You are right, there is no direct replacement for COMREG blocks in S7. FB 102 could not be converted to S7 since it uses some machine code of CPU928. But you can use standard block FB41 CONT_C instead (functional replacement), another possibility is to use library Modular PID FB and modular PID Tool. You don't need to convert and use DB2 in S7. COMREG uses this block for call distribution for different control loop's, in S7 you can do it yourself or with loop scheduler from Modular PID library.

Hi Muneeb, R64 is standing for the maximum of 64 Controlers (or Regler in German). When the system sees a DB2 then it checks what is in it and checks also how many controllers and with which time the controllers have to be called. Further is for every controller a Datablock of about 516 DW. The standard PID controller (FB41) can do the same as R64 can do, but you have to make the controllers new. If you print out the DB2 and the structure switches then you can make easy one or more new controllers in STEP7.

I'm in the same situation, I have to migrate to S7, and the S5 program uses a F102 block, and it has 3 controllers, wich are DB61, DB62, and DB63. DB61 is set as a PID, and DB62 is set to Point Controller (I don't know what this means) I think both are in cascade because the DB61 output is the DB62 setpoint. DB63 seems to be independient from the rest. DB61 and DB62 are for temperature control and DB63 for a damper control. I saw that each controller has more than one output, I don't know why. I know that I have to create this controllers from scratch in S7, but first I must understand how they are working now. I don't see where the output of each controller is set to an analogic output. Late If you print out the DB2 and the structure switches then you can make easy one or more new controllers in STEP7. Where I can see the "structure switches" and how DB2 can help me to know how are working? Thank you so much! Enzo.
