In this part we will start with the classification of the masterdrives with its ratings. ( we will be considering 380 to 480V ac i/p drives in our discussion).

The Masterdrive range starts with

2.2kw drive to 37kw drive called as Compact drives.

45kw drive to 200kw drive called as Chasis 1 drives

Above 200kw drives called as Chasis 2 drives.

There is another series of drives called as Masterdrive compact plus.

In this range from 2.2kw to 15kw there are only 2 boards in the drive. The controller and the PEU (power and electronics unit).

The controller can be any controller cu1 , cu2 , cu3 , cuvc , cumc , cusa depending on the order no. of the drive.

The PEU has the following ckts on it.

The 3phase diode bridge rectifier.

The pre-charging ckt.

The DC link filter capacitor bank.

The 3phase IGBT bridge invertor.

The o/p CT’s.

The power supply and monitoring ckt.

The 6 gate driver ckts for the igbt’s.

The DC voltage measurement ckt.

The o/p current measurement ckt.

The Fan ckt and the heatsink temp. monitor ckt..

The main contactor and safestop ckt.

From 18.5kw till 37kw which comes in frame size D there is an additional board in the drive.

These drives have the controller , the PEU and the PCU board in it.

PCU board is the pre-charging unit. It has only the pre-charging ckt built on it. i.e. the pre-charging resistors and the pre-charging relay.

There are different types of PEU board used in the compact ratings from 2.2kw to 37kw and are not interchangeable as they are unique for each rating of drive.

I think having some pictures uploaded here will help young engineers identify the boards too.
