mm440 torque mode

innovations Bronze Member Joined: 5/21/2008 Last visit: 12/13/2025 Posts: 93 Rating: (0)	dear collegues, it is a cable extruder machine in which there are two drives one for the capstan & another is for take up / spooler which winds the cable. we have used MM440 for both. we are running the capstan drive in speed mode & spooler drive in torque control mode(P1300=22). the capstan drive is working fine. & spooler drive is also working ok so long if the caterpiller motor is running/supplying the cable to spooler, BUT, the problem comes when we stop the caterpiller motor say for inspection the spooler motor do not come to a complete standstill even if we put the torque set point only 5%.instead of complete stop the spooler motor give little jerks with a very high torque & ultimately breaks the cable. i ve done themotor data identification(P1910=1 & 3) also but no use. The requirement is that if we give very litttle torque set point & try toblock the shaft it should completely standstill whereas it give jerks of high torque & try to move the motor & ultimately it breaks the material pl. give expert opinion as it is a real headache to run MM440 in torque mode

To get around this it is possible to fix the frequency to the motor at say 40 Hz, and vary the Voltage applied to the motor. This provides variable V/F control, which is a Torque Control method. Set: P1300 = 19, v/f control with independant Voltage setpoint. P1330 = 755:1, analogue input 2 is now setting the Voltage setpoint. Use analogue input 1 to set the operating frequency at say 40Hz, leave it a suitable setting. Analogue input 2 is now setting the Torque. Experiment with this to see if this is a better method, this can now only be prooved by experimenting with your system. Also, be aware of the motor temperature, and ensure this it remains stable. The motor fan cannot now remove the heat if it is stationary for a period of time. Good ~~Luck~~ Experimenting; this is the Empirical method..........
