can pcs7 v6.1 be install the s7 v5.4 saperately?

VPK Posts: 19 Rating: (0)	Dear sir, Actually, i have installed pcs7 v6.1 which was having step 7 v5.3. 1. But i have a S7 program backup programmed with S7 v5.4 version. Please tell me whether Is it possilble to open the particular program in the installed pcs7 version (mentioned above). when i opened the project which was programed in S7 V5.4 in the pcs7 V6.1, it is popingup the error msg.I have attached the Screen Shot for the above error. 2. Otherwise i have S7 software with version V5.4 saperately, but not the pcs7. Please let me know whether is it possible to install the saperate software S7 v5.4 by removing only the s7 v5.3 in my system which was already having pcs7 v6.1 without remove the pcs7. Not possible install 2 different version of Step7 on same partition (common files & .dll will be overvritte). The only possible solution is insall them over different partition Best Regards

cumulus Posts: 993 Rating: (103)	Hello, you should notice that it is not recommendable to update only a part of PCS7. You better should think about updating the complete PCS7 to V7.x which includes Step7 V5.4 or program it again in PCS7 V6.1. Cumulus

If you need work with PCS7 v6.1 and Step7 v5.4 you need separate installation over different partition (PCS7 v6.1 works with Step7 v5.3). If you only need work with Step7 v5.4 you can upgrade ALL PCS7, loosing PCS7 v6.1 and possibility to open PCS7 v6.1 project. Best Regards

You need create a new partition on your PC with new Operating System and install the different PCS7 version over differn partition. Just for example...i have 3 partition on my laptop: 1) Win 2K SP4 with PCS7 v6.0 SP3 2) Win Xp SP2 with PCS7 v6.1 SP2 3) Win Xp SP2 with PCS7 v7.0 SP1 all Operating system over same Hard Disk...but ONLY ONE PCS7 version for each partition. The other solution is using program like VMWare to create Virtual Machine, but i got some little trouble when running application like SIMATIC Batch and few more, so i preffer get a big Hard disk and partition it. I think the maximum numer of Operating System you can install over your PC is 4 (not really sure). So..if you need more than 4 system, the possible solution are: 1) uses removable Hard Disk and change them to what you need 2) uses more then 1 PC 3) uses program like VMWARE (becarefull, you can use it to develop and testing but...with trouble i think) I know this is not answer you was waiting, sorry Regards

But critical sw that can't be upgraded are CFC v6.1 SP1 HF9, SFC v6.1 SP1 HF1, TH-IEA-PO v6.1 SP1 HF2,SIMATIC-NET v6.3 HF1 and WinCC6.0 SP3a & co. For STEP7 v5.4 SP4 I have not found any problems as well as SCL, PLC-Sim etc. Even WinCC v6.0 SP4and Web/Navigator v6.1 SP1 seems to work but you need to "customize" the PCS7installation media to much. Bottom line you are better off upgrading PCS7 to the latest version to be on the safe side. Dec

So if I understand the wonderful logic of Siemens correctly, if I have PCS7 V6.1 SP1 with Step7 5.3 installed in a plant and the want to add or need to replace a S7-400 CP (CP-443) I need to upgrade the entire plant to V7.0? If I order 443-1EX11-0XE0, it is discontinued so unless I want to pay 2x the price I would order a 443-1EX20-0XE0 as recommended. But to even install that in the hardware configuration and not even use any features, I have to have Step 7 5.4. Is there any way to use the new recommended models within a plant that has PCS7 V6.1? If not, this could be one of the dumber things Siemens has done.
