NC <> I/O (NC program I/O communication)

Kes Greg Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I have read few articles talking about NCK I/O. If I understand correctly this allows for NC program to read/write actual hardware I/O. Any examples available? I have an 840D machine with no documentation and need to add broken tool check function. Please understand that I come from Fanuc world and I'm little disoriented. Any ideas how to accomplish this? Can I download PLC, decompile, change it and load it back in? Can I use extended functions and control I/O from within NC program? Thank You in advance. Greg

Posts: 20 Rating: (1)	- You can read write NCK I/O from NC part program with commands $A_IN[n] and $A_OUT[n]. - You can upload PLC . and you can just modify it ( only if the block is not write protected). You need not decompile it. (Important note: upload & download terminology is used differently in FANUC and SIEMENS , so our 'upload' is Fanuc’s 'download'. Just rememberthat in Siemens, Programmer( PG)is at higher level ). However my suggestion is if you are programming a broken tool function then you can make use of Interrupt function available in 840D. these interrupts are also linked to NCK I/O. i hope this information is useful to you.

You also mentioned interupt funtion. How do I use it, where can I find information about it? Is all NCK I/O only avalable on X121 plug or can it be mapped to any I/O point? Greg

Pee El Sea Gold Member Joined: 1/19/2008 Last visit: 10/20/2025 Posts: 998 Rating: (65)	Hi, NCK I/O is designed around fast I/O which is normally atached to the drive bus. If there is no actual hardware then the plc can force the inputs and outputs. It is not mapped as such but each bit is available to be modified by the plc program. These are located in DB10 The exception to this is 4 inputs and 2 outputs which Siemens provide as standard on connecter X121. These can be controlled by the plc program. Note also that there are analog nck i/o as well allowing easy transfer of numbers. If you haven't got full 840D documentation then search for DOCONWEB in your internet search engine. To change the plc you will need a full copy of Step7 and you may need the sinumerik add on for step 7 because cnc hardware is not standard simatic.

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, Apologies I meant to write NC Use commands $a_in[n] and $a_out[n] within the part program eg. to read an input :- IF $A_IN[1] = 1 GOTOF xxxxx to write an output $A_OUT[1] = 1 These inputs can also be used in interrupts and synchronous actions. Some functions may be options.
