Step 7 Block Monitoring & Subsequent Communications Error

nickephx Posts: 8 Rating: (3)	I turned on the monitoring function (via my TCP/IP connection to my CPU317F-2 CPU) to debug one of my blocks, and when I turned off the monitoring function an error popped up as shown in the attachment "STEP 7 Block Administration has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I pressed the debug button and the debugger suggested there was "an unhandled win32 exeption occurred in s7otbxsx.exe [3680]." From then on, I can no longer connect to the plc: neither to monitor, go online, nor download anything. When I restart my PC, I have no problems until I finish monitoring a block. This happens almost everytime I am running Step 7 Professional V5.4.0.0 winXP pro. I'm not sure if you need more info, but want to pick your expertise on how to fix this problem. Thijs Posts: 121 Rating: (16)	Does this happen with every project you try to download/monitor or only this specific CPU? Try to make a complete new project with only a CPU configured such way you can go online to it (ethernet). If you still have the problem, check your STEP7 installation. Otherwise try to re-organise the project

When Wincc is running and i try to stop it, it stays hanging on 46% and stops only completely when i manually end the running process S7otbxsx.exe also tried to Reïnstall Step7 + simatic net but i still have the problem

Use the freeware tool WinSocket XP to reset Windows Networking sockets. This will solve the problem.

What kind of application is it? Give us some informations please - and other users may be warned, too, if they use the same software.

umencho Grandmaster Joined: 3/21/2006 Last visit: 1/10/2026 Posts: 10247 Rating: (1183)	Hello, Just searched in Google for "Winsock XP": It can often cure the problem of lost connections after the removal of Adware components or improper uninstall of firewall applications or other tools that modify the XP network and Winsock settings. If you encounter connection problems after removing network related software, Adware or after registry clean-up; and all other ways fail, then give WinSock XP Fix a try. It can create a registry backup of your current settings, so it is fairly safe to use. We actually tested it on a test machine that was having a Winsock problem due to some Adware removal, and after running the utility and rebooting, the connectivity was restored. You could look at Microfsoft' decision How to determine and to recover from Winsock.. Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

I had good experiences with it in those cases, and never heared anything about problems with other software after using WinSock XP. I you don't trust the software, create a backup of your system before and then test it. It's the "safe way"
