Stipan Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	I have a problem to establish a conection between two Protool pro PC aplication, one OPC server and one OPC client. I seted dcom setings like described in help and pdfs. When I insert a tag on client aplication and click browes to choose a tag on server I get message "Could not establish a conection to the browser interface of the server OPC.SimaticHMI.PTPro to mb. Cause: RPC server is unavailable." mb is the name of the server comuter. Also when I'm choosing in controllers / PLC / Parameters / OPC conection (window name) / OPC server name\ in network neighborhood I choose the MB computer but I couldn't finde OPC.SimaticHMI.PTPro! I tested the server and client rt aplications on one computer, one in PTPro RT and one WinCC flexible and it's working. Pozdrav

Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (19)	I can't tell you whats the problem but if I would be in same position i would start like this : 1 - look to ip numbers of computers .. 2- try to ping ip numbers = ping 10.0.0.2 for example 3- if ok try to ping computer name = ping mb 4 - if its also ok then recheck dcom config and give permission to everyone give all permissions that possible ( just to be sure) 5- then install simatic net if its not installed (at least without licences) then try to connect to opc server with opc scout (i like this program) if you stuck at 1 of the steps then you are stucking at that level, I mean 1-2-3 is windows networking level problem 4 dcom level 5 simatic level.. do something and repost :) p.s: very very hard but try to see if rpc is working ( it generally works) try net start rpcss

Stipan Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	Thanks for answers but unfortunately....... 1,2 and 3 is ok, ping is working in DCOM setings permision is set to everyone in OPC scout it's not possible to conect to Server just to Server localy on same computer. how can I see does the RPC working or not, what is rpc? Is it just a service? Does the DCOM working trough TCP/IP? PS: I set DCOM seting like described in Protool Pro help, I'm using winxp profesional, win firewall is on (I try to torn off but it's not helping),

Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (19)	yes you can install matrikon opc exp its free but also opc scout can connect when you enter ip number at left side (remote computers section) Now are u sure of the opc server ? I mean is it working properly ? can you connect to opc server from its own computer via matrikon or opc scout ? ( I mean run it onsame computer) so if you can connect to it from it self and its working but client isnt connecting to it, then you need to finda good dcom setting help. I think in protool and in winccthere was a very good detailed help. if you can connect to opc server from it self and not from client it must be dcom settings, rpc is remote procedure call or something like that, it allows to run some c routines on remote machines. maybe j_bell or dec can tell more about it...

Stipan Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	I tested both explorers, OPC scout and MatrikonOPC expl. The result is same, like Ates said, I can conect to it from itself but not from client. I must look forward for dcom setings, because I set everything like described in protool help.

Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (19)	btw there are two buttons there at dcomcnfg.exe one for editing limits one for editing defaults edit both of them.. add everyone to both.. close firewalls.. then browse to your computer down there find opc.simaticnet or what ever and see that it uses default settings which you edited at the start.. I don't know what else ? give all permissions to all :) if its not working its very bad ah and with matricon it gives you an error message plz write it here .. good luck

Stipan Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	I gave all permitions everywhere, the error message on Matrikon expl. is 'No OPC servers are installed on this machine : \\MB. Before proceeding , ensure that you correctly installed an OPC server.' I found and read mn_ncm-pc_76.pdf last chapter '18 DCOM Settings with the dcomcnfg System Program' it's a little clearer but I didn't undersant the part of how to register the client and the server. Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (19)	at last I can only tell about some of my old experience.. if you installed simatic.net on the opc server computer try to connect OPC.SimaticNET it must at least run when you try to reach. If you didn't installed it try to install. If you can't connect and you get some very stupid alarm messages (like component configurator errors or catastrophic errors) plz open dcomcnfg and write adjust it as connect : identify. restart computer. Then open simatic net configuration console ( simatic.net ver. > 6.1 ) there you will see security tab under opc server go there and press allow say yes yes try again with the OPC.SimaticNET . If you can not reach it again then I don't know .. :) p.s: to connect wincc opc or protool rt opc you need to put them in runtime.
