Hello xtabl2; First I think I should point out that Profibus-PA instruments do not use RS-485 (such as is used by Profibus-DP), but a MBP (Manchester Coded, Bus Powered) physical layer, as described in the IEC 61158-2 standard. This is why you need a bus coupler to 'translate' the signals from Profibus-DP to Profibus-PA, and to power the PA bus. When researching Profibus documentation, one of the best places to start is the Dowloads sectionat Profibus.com; you can locate the Profibus-PA User and Installation Guideline manual in the list of available documents (there are many more that you can look at). It should help your understanding of the requirements for a Profibus-PA network: http://www.profibus.com/nc/downloads/ From Siemens, you can have access to many documents concerning the Profibus-PA network, including: PA System Description SIMATIC Bus links DP/PA coupler, active field distributors, DP/PA Link and Y Link Bus connection with PROFIBUS PA PROFIBUS PA cable cannot be used for PROFIBUS DP Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
