PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello Experts, Ours is a heavy engineering unit with mix load of welding rectifiers,induction motors, DC drives, AC drives used in heavy fabrication as well as machine shop. Recently in our area electricity power supply company has carried outtesting of power supply at our supply end. During testing it is obeservedas harmonic distortions are more than permissible limits i.e. more than 3%. As such they have asked us to intsll harmonic filters in our units. Can any one expalin me whether Siemens manufacturers harmonic filetrs? Electricity supply is 3 phase HT 33 Kv stepped down to 3 phase + neutral 415 Volt 50 Hz. Thanks in advance. Regards, DEEP.

OLundberg Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello DEEP, from your description it sounds like you have many loads causing power quality issues. Welding and drives cause different application requirements. I would recommend to contact a power quality consultant that can analyse what solution would be most valuable to you. You can choose to compensate at the main transformer or each load separately. The first solution might solve your problem with the utility but will leave the site dirty internally. The second, distributed solution enables a better power quality on your site which potentially will reduce production interruptions which is potentially very profitable. There are potential power consumption savings as well. Such an analysis requires measurements and a experienced consultant. If you have large welding installations these will require active filters to compensate flicker. Siemens has passive and active filters. LV through Sivacon and for MV you need to contact you local representative. This is a relatively old post, if it is still an issue I can help you get in contact with the right people at Siemens who currently work with this type of issues. Please reply privately.

OLundberg Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Sorry, I do no know the responsible person within Siemens. Depends on where you are in the world. I can recommend a number of power quality consultants if you can provide your geo-position. If you suspect problems caused by this or that you need to make a proper survey as it is a multivariable problem. I highly recommend to use an experienced PQ-specialist with good metering tools and I do not think Siemens provide such services.
