S7-300 NTP Time Synch problem

M_Mahallawy Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear Gens, I have a problem in configuring the NTP time server on the PLC S7-300 CPU 315-2DP; P/N: 6ES7315-2AG10-0AB0 VERSION 2.6.11. the rack configuration is a CPU+ CP 343-1 (P/N: 6GK7343-1EX30-0XE0, VERSION 2.3.2). the problem is that the PLC didn't sync. with time signal, i made the setting on the CP343-1 to receive the time signal on NTP, which is done correctly and synchronized correctly, but when i made the setting CPU to receive it on MPI as a slave (as per Siemens documentation ) but it didn't work :(. is there other settings that i had to change for the system to work correctly? gre_m Posts: 947 Rating: (45)	1. NTP server and CP must have same subnet. else need a router or change the NTP server address. 2. I believe that the CPU and the CP should have sleduyushie settings - see attachment. 3. i make Hw-config as sample (see attachment.). gre_m Posts: 947 Rating: (45)	I believe this problem has two sides: Either the time not come to the CP - it poblema connection with NTP - server or CP does not pass the time in the controller - the problem of configuration. I would suggest to install on a PC NTP-server such from http://www.meinberg.de/english/ and would check the time synchronization by NTP with this PC

M_Mahallawy Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	thank you all for the fast response, the problem is that the CP already reached the NTP Server correctly, it has its time stamps in the sync time, and on NCM Diag it Reached the NTP Server, the problem is that i can't forward the time to the CPU according to what siemens docs said: which is to sync. the CPU as an MPI slave (Which Failed) i.e; CP is correctly sync, but CPU didn't sync. i also tried the setting (as gre_m: in the PLC as a slave, and to forward time of day to station at CP ,which didn't work). please note that; i had in this project an S7 400H station at the same network which was sync. to the same NTP server with no problems. any suggestions?

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	As you describe it only 1 thought - problem is in HW Konfig. CP is syncronized, forward option enabled. CPU should be configured in Diagnostics/Clock tab, Syncronization As slave in PLC. If still doesn't help please upload your config here and screenshot of online CP (NCM). M_Mahallawy Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear Aret i have already refered to this link that you shared, to review my config., and the NTP Time server is an NTP Master in NCM Diag status. notice; i have no problems between the time server and the CP343-1 please note that i will copy the config. that i made from this link below, as i'm not at the project Site now to post snap shots; 1- first configuration which failed: siemens said; "The communication bus is configured as a party line, in other words it is physically "wired through" to the MPI interface on the CPU. This setup is found in "small" CPUs, in other words from the CPU 312 up to and including the CPU 315-2 DP and the C7 devices. In this case, in the Properties dialog of the CPU you select the "Diagnostics/Clock" tab and set "As slave" for the synchronization mode on the MPI." hint; my PLC CPU is 315-2DP, and i checked the forward time to station check box at CP configfuration, but the hardware configurator rejected this setting as an inconsistent configuration. so at this configuration i couldn't set the CP to forward time to station, so i left it unchecked. 2- second coniguration which failed: siemens said; "The communication bus is not configured as a party line, in other words the MPI interface and the communication bus are separate. This bus setup is found in "large" CPUs, in other words from the CPU 315-2 PN/DP up to and including the CPU319-3 PN/DP. In this case, in the Properties dialog of the CPU you select the "Diagnostics/Clock" tab and set "As slave" for the synchronization mode in the PLC." hint; i checked the forward time to station check box at CP configfuration and the hardware configurator accepted it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i will try later to send snap shots of the config. at the next post when i'm at site. i think there is problem that prevents me to check the forward time setting at CP, when configured as MPI slave. Any suggestions? best regards

Try to remove the forward, because forward chtoj may relate to the transfer time winCC, although it's kind for Simatic-sync. I do not have a 300-second CPU - this is speculative setting, requiring an experiment - "the method of creeping empiricism "

gre_m Posts: 947 Rating: (45)	Yello M_Mahallawy in additional: and the MPI-bus here? Forget the MPI. MPI tab is designed to synchronize the time of two processors connected in MPI. Do you have the controller and CP are connected to internal bus. At this time the bus for the CP - the master. Controller - slave. it should be configured. It remains to decide - what to do with the adopted CP time. Because CP is a master - it should bring time forward. Thus, in principle, should work, it is from these it is from these considerations, I sent you a HW-config. Perhaps there is not enough checkbox- set it and check again.
