Basic Profibus DP Setup Help

Hi guys,

Don't know if this is the correct place to post but however. I am interested in learning the profibus DP basics.

I have a CPU 315-2DP using Step 7 Professional with the following modules:

6ES7 151-1CA00-0AB0, IM Module ET200-s

6ES7 138-4CA01-0AA0, PM-E ET-200s 24vdc power module

6ES7 131-4BD01-0AA0, 4 DI 24vdc

6ES7 132-4HB10-0AB0, 2DO relays

along with all the terminating modules, profibus cable and connectors etc.

-Is this all I require to set up a few basic remote I/O's?

-I'm assuming this hardware will work with my CPU and software as I find all the modules to place on a rack?

-Does the slave IM module just transfer data to the master CPU?

-Does the PM-E supply the other modules of an internal bus or does it need to hard-wired?

Probably very silly questions but I haven't much experience with Profibus networks.

Hello David, you apparently have everything you need to make a simple network. you will have very easy to create your network because it is all Siemens. IM will exchange data as an extension of your rack. the PM will feed the cards through the integrated bus, important to know that the number of PM modules will depend on the number of cards and types you will have in the rack, do not forget to close your ET200s rack with the end cap that comes with IM. about configuration is very easy in HW config you should create a profibus bus from the CPU profibus port (right click) and drag the IM and then the modules. remember to configure the address profibus, in the configuration and physically in the IM. If you need more help, let me know.

Would you be able to explain the actual hard-wiring of the Profibus DP station.

-What is the purpose of the PM-E power module?

Is it only to monitor the supply voltage or does it also supply the backplane bus with 24vdc for the ET-200S IM module and electronic modules. So the ET-200S IM module doesn't require a hard wired 24vdc supply to its L and M terminals? 

-Also any 24vdc commons for digital I/O will be fed from the backplane bus?

Thanks Ste39, The wiring diagrams was just what I needed to understand the different buses available.

New question published by DS_7 is split to a separate thread with the subject 6es7 138-4cb00-0ab0 - Do you have to select the input voltage in the hardware config or is it self selecting?.
